SAUDE CREEK VINEYARDS

The place was rockin' when we visited, with a full tasting bar, live music in the corner, and The Scottish Pig dishing out some truly incredible BBQ. Even with the throng, there are cozy corners for two (or twenty) everywhere; a body could get happily lost.

The vineyard is planted with with Chambourcin, Vidal Blanc, Traminette, Petit Verdot, and Viognier. Wines are on the sweeter side; some of those on offer at our visit were Saude Creek White, an unusual, dry apple-based wine; a light, off-dry Vidal Blanc; Chambourcin that had a spritz of effervescence; Saude Creek Red, a semi-dry blend; and the popular Tavern White blend of Muscat and Chardonnay. We went off-menu and bought the Tavern Red, a cinnamon infused Cab Franc, temptingly (and smartly) referred to as Christmas in a Bottle. Mulled wine by the fire, here we come.

The tasting room is warm, with wooden beams and blocks of natural stone surrounding the bar and the wood-burning fireplace. From the back deck, it seemed that all 100 of Saude Creek's acres were covered in trees, bursting with red, yellow, orange and green.

Saude Creek is a party waiting to happen.

Everyone and everything welcome: kids, pets (outside on lower patios and lawn), weddings, private parties.

Groups or 10 or more require advance reservations.

The winery is admirably wheelchair-accessible from car to tasting bar, with two designated parking spaces, a paved ramp to the tasting room, and accessible bathrooms. Note that the ramp from the parking area is on an uphill grade.
